Dear Reader,

It’s October which means it’s the spookiest time of year. And no, it’s not because of the human-sized skeletons my neighbors seem to think are classy enough to hang on their doors. I don’t have to turn on the TV or go for a walk looking for external things to scare me. How come?

There are monsters in my mind. I simply need to walk down memory lane to find them.

Two years ago, just a few days before Halloween, X decided he wanted out of our marriage. In case you’re new here, X is my ex-husband and he had the brilliant (and immature) idea of giving me five day’s notice before he issued a “talaq,” the Islamic word that initiates divorce. Like I said, this time of year is terrifying, but it’s not because I’m clinging to a love lost. This time of year is a period of mourning. It’s when all my beliefs about love and marriage died and had to be re-written.
